Are You Living Like Roommates Instead of a Couple?

Remember when you couldn’t wait to see each other? When you had things to talk about, laughed together and felt like you were a team?

    So, what happened?

Perhaps life got in the way. Work, children, family worries and all the everyday stuff slowly took over. Maybe you stopped talking about the things that really matter. Conversations became about what needs doing, who’s picking up what, or what’s for dinner.

You might still live under the same roof, share a bed and get on with everyday life, but something feels missing.

You’re together, but are you really connecting?

Perhaps you argue about the same things over and over again. One of you wants to talk, while the other shuts down. You feel misunderstood, unheard or taken for granted. Or maybe you’ve stopped arguing altogether because it feels easier not to bother.

And underneath it all, you both might be wondering whether things can ever feel different.

The good news is that you don’t have to keep going around in circles.

Couples counselling gives you the chance to stop, take a breath and really listen to each other. Not just to what is being said, but to what might be going on underneath.

As a qualified relationship counsellor, I offer a warm, non-judgemental space where you can both talk openly about how you’re feeling. You don’t have to have all the answers, and you certainly don’t have to wait until things reach breaking point.

We can explore what has changed between you, the patterns you keep getting caught up in, and what you both need from your relationship.

The aim isn’t to decide who is right or wrong. It’s about understanding each other better and finding a way forward together.

You might want to feel closer again, improve communication, rebuild trust or simply rediscover the friendship and connection you seem to have lost along the way.

You don’t have to wait until it’s too late.

Making that first call can feel daunting, especially if you’re not used to talking about your feelings or you’re worried about what might come out. That’s completely understandable.

You don’t need to know exactly what to say. You just need to be willing to take the first step.

If you recognise yourselves in any of this, why not get in touch?

I’m happy to have a free 15-minute introductory telephone or Zoom call so we can talk about what’s happening and see whether working together feels right for you.

Because your relationship deserves more than simply getting through the day.

Let’s see if we can help you find your way back to each other.
