Anxiety is one of the most common reasons people seek counselling — and one of the most exhausting things to live with. You might recognise some of these:
- A constant sense of dread or worry that won’t switch off
- Physical symptoms — racing heart, tight chest, shallow breathing
- Difficulty sleeping or an inability to relax
- Avoiding situations, people, or places that trigger fear
- Overthinking every decision or conversation
- Feeling on edge, irritable, or unable to concentrate
- Panic attacks that feel overwhelming and frightening
If any of that sounds familiar, you’re not alone — and it doesn’t have to stay this way.
How can counselling help with anxiety?
Counselling gives you a safe, confidential space to explore what’s driving your anxiety without judgement. Rather than simply managing symptoms, person-centred counselling helps you understand the roots of your anxiety — the underlying fears, beliefs, and patterns that keep it in place.
Together we’ll work at your pace to explore what anxiety means for you, identify what’s driving it, and build a clearer, calmer sense of yourself. Many clients notice a real shift after just a few sessions — not because the challenges disappear, but because their relationship with anxiety starts to change.
My approach to anxiety counselling
I use a person-centred approach, which means our sessions are shaped entirely by you — your story, your pace, your goals. I also bring my own lived experience of anxiety and overwhelm. There’s no judgement here, only warmth and honest support. You can also find helpful information about anxiety on the Mind website.
