There is no right or wrong way to grieve, and no timeline you should follow. You might be experiencing:
- Intense sadness, crying, or an inability to cry at all
- Anger, guilt, or relief — emotions that feel confusing or shameful
- A sense of unreality or numbness
- Difficulty functioning day-to-day — sleeping, eating, working
- Loneliness, even when surrounded by others
- Feeling pressure to “move on” before you’re ready
All of these are valid. All of them are welcome here.
How I work with grief and bereavement
As part of the bereavement counselling team at St Joseph’s Hospice, I have supported many people through some of the most painful experiences imaginable. Grief cannot be rushed, fixed, or explained away — it needs to be witnessed.
In our sessions, I provide a steady, non-judgemental presence where you can bring your grief exactly as it is. Many clients find they’re able to carry their loss differently over time — not as something to overcome, but as part of who they are. Find out more about how sessions work. The Cruse Bereavement Support charity also offers resources for those navigating loss.
