Menopause Counselling · Epping, Essex

Menopause support.
For the parts HRT can’t reach.

Counselling for the emotional and psychological side of menopause and perimenopause. With Lynda Dorbin, BACP registered counsellor, based in Epping.

Menopause is more than a physical transition.

The hormonal changes of menopause and perimenopause bring physical symptoms that are increasingly well understood. But the emotional side — the anxiety, the low mood, the moments of grief or rage, the quiet sense that you no longer recognise yourself — these are talked about far less.

Many women describe a sense of loss during this time. A loss of the person they knew themselves to be — their confidence, their resilience, their sense of direction. Some feel invisible. Others feel overwhelmed by an anger or sadness they can’t quite name.

Counselling doesn’t suppress these feelings — it helps you understand them, make sense of the transition you’re in, and find a new relationship with who you’re becoming.

I’ve worked with many women navigating this stage of life. My approach is warm, person-centred, and non-judgemental. I’ll meet you wherever you are — in crisis, in confusion, or simply in need of a space to think.

How counselling helps

Three things menopause counselling can offer.

A space that belongs to you

Many women have been so focused on caring for others that they’ve never had a space purely for themselves. Counselling gives you exactly that — a confidential, unhurried hour that’s entirely yours.

Making sense of what’s happening

Understanding the connection between hormonal changes and your emotional experience can be genuinely relieving. Counselling helps you separate what’s physiological from what’s psychological — and work with both.

Rebuilding your sense of self

For many women, menopause becomes an invitation to ask who they want to be in the next chapter of their life. Counselling can help you explore that question with curiosity rather than fear.

Questions

Questions about menopause counselling.

What is menopause counselling?

Menopause counselling is talking therapy focused on the emotional and psychological challenges of perimenopause and menopause — including anxiety, low mood, loss of confidence, identity shifts, relationship difficulties, and grief.

Can counselling help with menopause anxiety?

Yes. Anxiety is one of the most commonly reported — and least expected — symptoms of perimenopause. Counselling helps you understand what’s happening, develop coping strategies, and reduce the sense of being overwhelmed or out of control.

Do I need to be in menopause to benefit?

Not at all. Many women seek support during perimenopause — sometimes years before their periods stop — when emotional symptoms can be at their most intense and least understood. You don’t need a diagnosis or a particular stage to begin.

Is menopause counselling available online?

Yes. Sessions are available both in-person at the practice in Epping and online via Zoom for anyone in the UK. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person for this kind of work.

How many sessions will I need?

This is personal to you. Some people feel real benefit after 6–8 sessions; others prefer longer-term support through a gradual transition. We’ll always work at your pace. More about fees and how sessions work.
