Relationship Counselling & Life Transitions · Epping

When life asks you
to start again.

Individual counselling for relationship difficulties and significant life transitions. With Lynda Dorbin, BACP registered counsellor, based in Epping, Essex.

Some changes arrive with warning. Others don’t.

Life transitions can take many forms. A relationship ending. A redundancy. Children leaving home. A health diagnosis. Retirement arriving sooner — or differently — than you imagined. Menopause. Moving somewhere new. The death of someone central to your life.

What these moments have in common is that they challenge your sense of who you are. The identity, the routines, the relationships that gave your life its shape — suddenly they look different, or they’re gone. And nobody told you how disorienting that was going to feel.

Counselling provides a space to grieve what’s been lost, understand what’s happening, and begin to find your footing again — at your own pace.

My approach to both relationship difficulties and life transitions is person-centred — which means starting from where you actually are, not where you think you should be. There’s no agenda, no roadmap, no fixed number of sessions. Just honest, careful attention to what matters most to you.

Questions

Common questions.

What is relationship counselling for individuals?

Individual relationship counselling helps you explore your own relationship patterns — past and present. It can support difficulties in romantic relationships, family dynamics, friendships, and workplace relationships, without needing a partner to attend.

What counts as a life transition?

Any significant change that disrupts your sense of self or your routine. This includes divorce or separation, redundancy or career change, retirement, bereavement, a health diagnosis, children leaving home, moving home, and menopause — among many others.

How is this different from couples counselling?

This is individual counselling — it focuses on your own experience, feelings, and needs. It’s particularly helpful when only one person wants support, or when the transition is primarily your own to navigate. See couples counselling.

Can I come if I’m not in a relationship?

Absolutely. Much of the relationship work in individual counselling is about your relationship with yourself, your past, your patterns, and your values — not just romantic partnerships.

Is this available online?

Yes. All sessions are available in-person in Epping or online via Zoom for clients anywhere in the UK. Many people going through life transitions find online sessions particularly convenient. More about online counselling.
